If you missed the Juventus vs Dortmund match, you probably missed the best game of the week.
Juventus vs Borussia Dortmund on the opening day of the UCL night delivered an absolute blockbuster. Eight goals, bangers and a Football frenzy. It had it all.
Juventus fans came into this game having just witnessed a thrilling seven-goal thriller against Inter Milan during the weekend but they didn’t know they were in for something more exciting.
The first half was a quiet affair. Juventus threatened to take the lead after Thuram fired a long range shot which was palmed away at the last by Kobel. Both teams had their moments but nothing concrete actualized in the first half.
But everything went up in flames in the second half.
Karim Adeyemi opened the scoring with a beautiful goal to draw first blood for Dortmund. After receiving a pass from Guirassy, he steadied himself and found the left-bottom corner.
That was the beginning of a wild night.
Juventus answered with an absolute rocket from Kenan Yildiz. Fans were yet to take in the beauty of Yildiz’s goal when Nmecha put Dortmund in front.
Juventus needed goals and they brought on Vlahovic who got down to business immediately. With just a few minutes under his belt, Vlahovic pulled Juventus level.
If you thought the match would end at 2-2, think again. Both teams looked like they would score anytime they got the ball and indeed, another goal did come.
Dortmund took the lead again through Yan Couto and a few minutes later, they made it 4-2 after Bensabaini calmly dispatched his penalty in the 86th minute. But the match was far from over.
Four minutes into added time, Kalulu delivered an inch-perfect cross into the box and Vlahovic was on hand to make it 4-3. Two minutes later, Juventus fans couldn’t believe what they were witnessing. They had equalised. They had two goals in two minutes to make it 4-4.
Vlahovic was involved again as he swung in a stupendous cross which was met by Lloyd Kelly at the back post and headed into the net. To add more tension to a match that was riveting, VAR had to check the goal and this time, the football gods had a beautiful script as the goal was given. The game ended 4-4.
It was truly a game of two halves. It was a true reflection of what to expect on UCL nights. Would there be a better game than this? We’ll have to find out but as it stands, we’ve just witnessed the best game of the week.
