Atletico Madrid forward vows to give his best in the Spanish capital but remains open to a move

Barcelona target Julian Alvarez has refused to rule out the possibility of a move to Camp Nou in the summer transfer window.

The Atletico Madrid forward has impressed since his arrival in Spain from Manchester City, and Barcelona are hoping to secure his services as Robert Lewandowski’s replacement at No 9.

But any move for Alvarez will be difficult. He has a contract at Atletico until 2030, and even if they were willing to let him go, the club have no intention of selling the 26-year-old to a direct rival and would prefer any potential transfer to be outside Spain.

“I don’t know,” Alvarez said when quizzed about the possibility of leaving the Spanish capital. “Maybe yes, maybe no, you never know. But I’m very happy here. They asked me a question that will be repeated everywhere. I’m happy, I take each day as it comes. I work to improve and to give my best here.”

Besides Atletico’s unwillingness to sell, finances are another major obstacle for Barcelona. The Catalan club must operate within strict spending limits and also intend to pursue reinforcements elsewhere in the squad, notably in defence.

Other clubs, including Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, are also monitoring Alvarez’s situation, while remaining in the Spanish capital for the duration of his current contract is not out of the question.
