Forward says matchday environment is a unique experience he still finds it difficult to fully describe
Joshua Zirkzee has spoken about his deep appreciation for life at Manchester United, describing the atmosphere at Old Trafford as “incredible” despite growing uncertainty over his future.
The 24-year-old forward, who joined from Bologna in 2024, said the experience of playing in front of United supporters continues to leave a lasting impression on him, even after two years at the club. Zirkzee’s time in Manchester has shown some early promise, but he has also struggled to convince and has mostly sat on the bench even when fit.
Zirkzee told United’s in-house media that the matchday environment at Old Trafford was a unique experience for him and that he still finds it difficult to fully describe.
“I don’t think there’s anything like it,” Zirkzee said. “When they start singing ‘United Road’ before the game, and you’re just like… even if you’re playing a match, you sometimes you just look around and you’re like: ‘f*cking hell, I’m playing in Old Trafford.’
“It’s very special, you can just feel it. It’s a hard feeling to explain but it’s just this type of energy, aura that hangs around the stadium with the history, the great players that have been in this club.
“The only thing I can say is just that I’m really thankful to be in a position to walk out in front of these fans. It’s just incredible, the stadium, the fans. There’s really nothing like this, I think, anywhere on this planet.”
