Joshua Kimmich led Germany to a dominant 4-0 victory over Luxembourg in a World Cup qualifier, propelling them to the top of Group A. Kimmich scored twice, including a penalty kick after Luxembourg’s Dirk Carlson was sent off for handball in the box.

The match began with Germany’s intense pressure, and they nearly scored in the third minute when Nick Woltemade deflected Serge Gnabry’s shot, but it was disallowed for handball. RB Leipzig’s David Raum, however, broke the deadlock with a beautifully curled free-kick, giving Germany a 1-0 lead.

After Carlson’s red card for handling the ball in the box, Kimmich converted the penalty, doubling Germany’s advantage. The hosts continued to press, and Gnabry scored the third goal shortly after the restart, thanks to a pass from Karim Adeyemi. Kimmich sealed the win with his second goal, pouncing on a loose ball in the box after a corner kick.

Despite the convincing win, they had opportunities to score more, with Florian Wirtz hitting the post from a free-kick and Jonathan Burkardt having two good efforts in stoppage time.

The win puts Germany at the top of Group A, level on points with Northern Ireland and Slovakia. They face Northern Ireland in Belfast on Monday, a match that will be crucial in determining their World Cup qualification prospects.
