Jorginho’s playing time at Arsenal has been limited this season, with the player featuring in just nine Premier League matches
Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has said farewell to the club as he prepares to depart North London this summer. The Italian is set to join Brazilian club Flamengo on a free transfer. It would be a return to his country of birth after nearly two decades in European football.
The 33-year-old has agreed to a three-year contract with Flamengo, with the move expected to be finalised once his Arsenal contract expires in June.
The player’s farewell message included a post on Instagram where Jorginho shared an emotional video that began with an image showing the Arsenal crest and a tag saying “with love and respect”, with his signature on it. Attached to the image was a comment saying: “Thank you, Arsenal”.
Jorginho’s playing time at Arsenal has been limited this season, with the player featuring in just nine Premier League matches. Given the strong performance of midfielders like Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, and the club’s pursuit of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, Jorginho’s departure has been expected for some time.
The move is emotionally significant for Jorginho, who was born in Imbituba, Brazil but moved to Italy at age 15 and has never played professionally in his home country. His return is seen as a homecoming and has been met with enthusiasm by Flamengo fans.
