Decision is understood to have been mutual and without disagreement

Jonny Evans has stepped down from his position as Manchester United’s head of loans and pathways.

The ex-defender took up the role after retiring from playing in the summer, but has now quit after only five months.

The 37-year-old informed the club he wanted to leave in order to spend more time with his family. The decision is understood to have been mutual and without disagreement.

Evans returned to United in 2023 after eight years away, making 43 appearances before retiring at the end of last season to end a 20-year senior career that included 536 club appearances and 107 caps for Northern Ireland.

When he received the job shortly after his retirement he said: “I am looking forward to working with the next generation of talented players to support them to reach their potential. Having had experience of loans myself, I know the crucial role that they can play within a player’s development.

“I am excited to help further develop the pathway to our first team and continue the legacy of young players thriving at Manchester United.”

Evans played 241 times in all for United, winning three Premier League titles, two League Cups, the FA Cup and the Champions League.
