The defender is facing time out through injury again this season
Liverpool are facing an injury concern over Jeremie Frimpong after the player was forced off during the international break for the Netherlands.
The 25-year-old came on at half-time for Cody Gakpo in his country’s friendly against Ecuador but lasted just 13 minutes before being substituted. Frimpong headed straight down the tunnel afterwards. The exact nature of the injury has not yet been confirmed.
It is the latest issue in a season already disrupted by muscle problems for the defender. He previously missed time with a hamstring injury suffered against Eintracht Frankfurt in October and another issue in a match against Qarabag in January. Before arriving at Liverpool, Frimpong had had a pristine injury record.
It is a difficult development for Arne Slot, who is already short of options on the right side of defence. Conor Bradley, for example, has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery following an injury against Arsenal, and Slot has been forced to play a host of players at right-back, including Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai.
If Frimpong is unavailable for the fixture against Manchester City, Slot may need to reshuffle his squad, with Szoboszlai a potential option to drop deeper. Joe Gomez could also provide cover if fit.
Liverpool, who face City in the FA Cup this weekend before a Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain four days later.
Frimpong was one of several Liverpool players on international duty with the Netherlands, alongside Virgil van Dijk and Gakpo, while Ryan Gravenberch remained an unused substitute.
