Jamie Vardy Bids Farewell to Leicester City After 13 Years

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy has announced his departure from Leicester City at the end of the 2024/25 season, concluding a 13-year stay at the club.

Joining from Fleetwood Town in 2012 for a fee of £1 million, Vardy’s journey from non-league football to Premier League stardom is nothing short of inspirational.

He leaves as Leicester’s all-time leading scorer, having netted 198 goals in 496 appearances.

Vardy’s time at Leicester is highlighted by the club’s fairy-tale Premier League title win in the 2015/16 season, where he played a pivotal role by scoring 24 goals.

His record-breaking run of scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League matches during that campaign remains a testament to his prowess. Further accolades include the FA Cup victory in 2021 and the Community Shield triumph in 2022.

Despite Leicester’s recent relegation, Vardy’s commitment never wavered.

He expressed his deep connection to the club and its supporters in a heartfelt message, stating, “I’ve had 13 unbelievable years at this club with lots of success, some downs, but a majority, all highs.” He emphasized that while he’s “gutted” to be leaving, the timing feels right.

At 38, Vardy has no intentions of retiring. He is exploring opportunities to continue his playing career, with interest reportedly coming from MLS clubs and teams in Saudi Arabia.

His final home game for Leicester is set for May 18 against Ipswich Town, offering fans a chance to bid farewell to a true club legend.

Leicester City chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha lauded Vardy’s contributions, describing him as a unique and cherished figure in the club’s history.

Vardy’s departure marks the end of an era, but his legacy will forever be etched in the annals of Leicester City
