Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison has expressed his disappointment over the club’s underwhelming Premier League campaign, labelling the recent 5-1 defeat to Liverpool as “embarrassing.”

Despite the domestic struggles, Maddison remains resolute in his commitment to delivering success in the Europa League, aiming to reward the unwavering support of Spurs fans.

“No one in the whole club, from top to bottom, can be satisfied with where we are,” Maddison stated, reflecting on the team’s 19th league loss of the season

“It definitely hurts. It’s a little bit embarrassing. I am a bit embarrassed myself.”

Acknowledging the fans’ frustrations, Maddison stated the players’ shared disappointment and the importance of unity moving forward.

“We definitely want to reward them for the support that they give us by creating something special because the league hasn’t been good enough. But it hurts us as well. It’s us players out there, and we take responsibility for that.”

With Tottenham set to face Bodø/Glimt in the Europa League semi-finals, Maddison views the competition as an opportunity to salvage the season.

“This is why we’re so motivated for this competition because the season can still be so special. People talk all the time about Tottenham being without silverware for however many years, but we’re in the last four, and we’ve got a great opportunity in a competition we’ve been pretty solid in this year.”

As Spurs prepare for the crucial Europa League fixtures, Maddison’s determination underscores the team’s desire to end the season on a high note and bring joy to their supporters.
