Tottenham’s James Maddison has suffered a concerning injury during Sunday’s pre-season friendly against Newcastle, with manager Thomas Frank describing it as ‘bad’.

Tottenham’s pre-season preparations have been hit with a setback after midfielder James Maddison suffered an injury during Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle

The 28-year-old England international pulled up off the ball seven minutes from time, looking in clear discomfort, and had to be taken from the field of play on a stretcher. The scene was made even more emotional by the presence of Son Heung-min, who was making his final appearance for the club and was visibly upset watching on.

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank described the injury as “bad” and confirmed that it appears to be the same knee that Maddison injured last season.

Maddison missed the Europa League final victory against Manchester United due to a knee injury, and it seems that he may have aggravated the same issue. Frank’s assessment of the situation is worrying for Spurs fans, who will be hoping that the injury is not too serious.

The injury to Maddison is a significant blow for Tottenham, who will be looking to build on their success in the Europa League last season. Maddison has been an important player for the team, and his absence would be felt deeply.

Frank’s comments about the injury being “bad” suggest that the player may be out for an extended period, which would be a major concern for the club.
