Awards gala comes after Isak missed the Magpies’ opening game of the season against Aston Villa
Alexander Isak is not expected to attend Tuesday’s Professional Footballers’ Association awards in Manchester after falling out with Newcastle United.
The Sweden striker is among the nominees for the men’s Player of the Year award after scoring 23 Premier League goals last season. However, given the situation with Newcastle it could be awkward for him to attend and represent the club.
Isak has reportedly not confirmed his attendance at the event, which all nominees are expected to do. However, there is still time to do so and even a late confirmation of his attendance from the player would likely be welcomed by the PFA.
Isak was not in the squad for the Magpies’ opening game of the season against Aston Villa, which ended 0-0. Manager Eddie Howe said afterwards that he hoped the matter could be “resolved quickly”.
Liverpool made a £110m bid for the forward earlier this month, which Newcastle rejected. Isak has made it clear he wants to move to Anfield, but Newcastle are not willing to sell, and even if they do, will not consider any offers below their £150m valuation.
Sources have suggested Liverpool will only return with an improved offer if Newcastle show a willingness to negotiate.
The two sides will face each other at St James’ Park on Monday in what could add another layer to the transfer saga.
