Sweden international says “not everyone has the full picture”

Alexander Isak has said he is “happy and proud” to have joined Liverpool this summer despite widespread criticism over the circumstances of his £125m move.

The Sweden international became the most expensive signing in British football history on deadline day, leaving St James’ Park after two seasons to join the Premier League champions.

The move came after weeks of tension between player and club, with Isak remaining resolute that he would not play for Newcastle any more.

He was excluded from Eddie Howe’s pre-season preparations and later issued a statement in August slamming the club for “broken promises”.

“Not everyone has the full picture, but that’s something for another day,” said Isak while on international duty for Sweden. “That’s part of football. I can’t control everything that is said or written but I’m glad I became a Liverpool player. That’s what I wanted and I’m happy about that.

“There is a lot to discuss, and it can be discussed for a long time. It has been educational, and I’m happy with the final result.

“I’m happy and proud to be a Liverpool player. I don’t want to go into details or talk about that situation too much. It is a closed chapter, but I have never had any problems.”
