Inter Milan extended their lead at the top of Serie A after securing a battling 2-0 away victory over Parma, making it six league wins in a row.
Inter Milan continued their impressive domestic run by claiming a 2-0 victory away to Parma, recording a sixth straight Serie A win and extending their unbeaten head-to-head league streak against the Gialloblu to eight matches.
Arriving in Parma as the most in-form side in Italy, Inter set out to tighten their grip on top spot and began the contest on the front foot. Early pressure saw Yann Aurel Bisseck denied by an excellent save, while captain Lautaro Martínez went close with a header that flashed just over the crossbar from Federico Dimarco’s delivery.
The Nerazzurri maintained their attacking momentum as the first half progressed, repeatedly pushing Parma deeper into their own half. Pio Esposito came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock when his acrobatic volley crashed against the crossbar, underlining Inter’s dominance.
Their persistence was finally rewarded in the 42nd minute, although the goal survived a lengthy VAR check for offside. Dimarco started the move with a cross to Esposito, who showed fine control before setting the ball back for the wing-back to finish clinically at the near post, sending Inter into the break with a deserved lead.
Despite thick fog enveloping the Ennio Tardini Stadium after half-time, Inter resumed on the front foot but found clear chances harder to come by against a resilient Parma defence that limited the visitors to half-opportunities.
Parma coach Carlos Cuesta turned to his substitutes on the hour mark in an attempt to swing the momentum, yet it was still Inter who looked more dangerous. Henrikh Mkhitaryan slipped Petar Šučić through on goal, but the Croatian failed to sort his feet quickly enough and dragged his effort wide.
Late drama followed as Ange-Yoan Bonny briefly thought he had doubled Inter’s lead, only for VAR to rule out the effort for handball. Marcus Thuram then struck moments later to seal the points, extending Inter’s lead at the top to four points ahead of AC Milan’s clash with Genoa. Parma, meanwhile, remain five points above the relegation zone after suffering a third home defeat in four league matches.
