Inter Milan striker Ange-Yoan Bonny is expected to miss the Coppa Italia semi-final against Como due to a muscle injury

Inter Milan’s 2-0 recovery against Genoa was a great way to shake off their European exit, but it came with a physical price. Ange-Yoan Bonny, who has been a bright spot for the team lately, was forced to limp off the pitch with what appeared to be a muscular issue.

While the goals from Federico Dimarco and Hakan Calhanoglu secured the league points, the sight of the young striker hobbling away left coach Cristian Chivu with a significant tactical headache.

Initial medical reports suggest that the injury isn’t as severe as first feared, which is a rare bit of good news for the Nerazzurri medical staff. For now, experts believe that formal tests to check for major muscle lesions are unnecessary. However, a “muscular issue” is a broad term that usually requires at least a few days of total rest to prevent a minor strain from turning into a season-ending tear.

Because of this cautious approach, it is highly unlikely that Bonny will be available for Tuesday’s Coppa Italia semi-final first leg against Como.

This injury leaves Inter’s frontline looking dangerously thin at a critical moment. The squad is already missing captain Lautaro Martinez, who remains sidelined with a calf strain suffered during the Champions League clash with Bodo/Glimt. With two of their primary attacking threats in the treatment room, the pressure is mounting on the remaining strikers to carry the scoring burden during one of the most intense weeks of the season.

In response, Cristian Chivu is expected to rely on the experience of Marcus Thuram to lead the line in his traditional 3-5-2 formation. Thuram will likely be paired with the young prospect Francesco Pio Esposito, a duo that will need to find immediate chemistry to break down a resilient Como side.

The ultimate goal for the medical team is to have Bonny back and fully fit for next weekend’s Derby della Madonnina. Facing their rivals, AC Milan, is the top priority for Inter as they look to protect their 13-point lead at the top of Serie A.
