Inter Milan’s lead at the top of Serie A is reduced to 8 points as they conceded a late equalizer in a 1-1 draw with Atalanta at the San Siro.
Inter Milan’s title charge stalled as they were held to a 1-0 draw with Atalanta at the San Siro. The result leaves Inter 8 points clear of city rivals AC Milan, but having played a game more.
Inter had taken the lead through Francesco Pio Esposito’s 26th-minute strike, but Atalanta equalized late on through a Kamaldeen Sulemana-inspired goal. Sulemana’s run down the left flank ended with a clever pass to Nikola Krstovic, who tapped home the equalizer.
The draw is a setback for Inter, who had been looking to re-establish a 10-point lead at the top of the table. Instead, they have now gone three league games without a win, drawing two and losing one.

Atalanta, on the other hand, will be pleased with the point, having been on the back foot for much of the game. Gianluca Scamacca’s early strike had caused Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer some trouble, but the hosts dominated possession and created several chances.
Inter’s manager Cristian Chivu was furious with the officials, picking up a second yellow card and being dismissed with five minutes remaining. The team will need to regroup quickly, as they face a tough run of fixtures in the coming weeks.
The draw also raises questions about Atalanta’s chances of qualifying for European competition. Despite their strong start to the season, La Dea have struggled away from home, winning just three games in 12.
