Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta defends the team after their Club World Cup exit, attributing it to exhaustion and a long season.
Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta has come to the defense of the team after their surprise 2-0 defeat to Fluminense in the Club World Cup round of 16. Marotta attributed the loss to the team’s exhaustion and long season, noting that they had played 63 games.
“We have represented Italy in all competitions, and this match is a reflection of the team’s fatigue,” Marotta said. “I want to thank Simone Inzaghi and his staff for the season, and Cristian Chivu for this last experience.”
Marotta also addressed captain Lautaro Martinez’s harsh words about his teammates, interpreting them as a call for unity and commitment. “Perhaps he was referring to (Hakan) Calhanoglu’s dynamics,” Marotta said, hinting that Martinez’s comments might be related to the Turkish midfielder’s reported desire to leave the club.
Marotta emphasized that the club will address the situation calmly and lucidly, with the goal of solving problems and moving forward. The president’s comments suggest that Inter Milan is committed to supporting its players and staff, even in the face of adversity.
