Inter Milan has joined the race to sign Atalanta striker Ademola Lookman, with the club’s sporting director Piero Ausilio pushing to broker a potential deal. Lookman has attracted interest from European heavyweights, including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, but Inter Milan is determined to secure his services.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a phenomenal resurgence at Atalanta, leading the team to Europa League glory in the 2023/24 season and scoring 20 goals and seven assists in all competitions last term.
Lookman’s versatility is one of his valuable assets, as he can play as a focal point in the attack, second striker, or on the wings. This flexibility makes him an attractive prospect for Inter Milan, who want to build a formidable squad to return to the summit this season.
Despite having Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram in their ranks, Inter Milan is willing to invest in Lookman to strengthen their attack.
Atletico Madrid has also made contact with Lookman’s entourage, despite reaching an agreement for Argentine attacker Thiago Almada.
The Spanish outfit is looking to strengthen their offense and believes Lookman could fit perfectly into their 3-5-2 formation. However, Atalanta is holding out for €50 million for their star forward, which may be a challenge for Atletico Madrid given their budget constraints.
Barcelona has been keeping tabs on Lookman in their search for a top-quality left-winger, but their financial struggles are proving to be a stumbling block in the deal. The Catalan club’s interest in Lookman is driven by the need for a backup option for Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. However, with Atalanta’s valuation of Lookman ranging from €40-60 million, Barcelona may struggle to meet the asking price.
Inter Milan has also lined up alternative targets, including RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda and Monaco’s Eliesse Ben Seghir, in case they fail to land Lookman. With the transfer window heating up, the competition for Lookman’s signature is expected to intensify, and Inter Milan will need to act quickly to secure his services.
