Inter Milan has extended its lead atop the Serie A table to six points with a narrow 1-0 win over Lecce at the San Siro.

The victory marks Inter Milan’s 12th win in 14 league matches, despite a frustrating display that saw them create numerous chances without converting.

Lecce, struggling to avoid relegation, had a few bright moments, including a low strike from Ange-Yoan Bonny that was tipped around the post by goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone. The visitors’ best chance came late in the game, when Jamil Siebert’s deflected shot forced a superb reaction save from Yann Sommer.

Inter’s dominance was evident, with Bonny and Henrikh Mkhitaryan creating scoring opportunities, but it was Pio Esposito who snatched the winner 12 minutes from time. Lautaro Martinez, who came on as a substitute, played a crucial role in the goal, as his shot was parried into Esposito’s path.

The win was far from convincing, with Inter’s attack struggling to break down Lecce’s defense. The visitors’ goalkeeper, Falcone, made several impressive saves, including a point-blank header from Nicolo Barella.

Lecce remains in danger of relegation, with just three points separating them from the drop zone. Eusebio Di Francesco’s side has lost three consecutive matches, failing to score in the process.
