The announcement comes after plans to host an Italian top-flight match in Perth were scrapped late last year. Serie A had been in talks to stage a game between AC Milan and Como in February, but it was called off due to conditions imposed by the Asian Football Confederation.
The games are expected to give a significant boost to Western Australia’s tourism sector. Tourism Minister Reece Whitby welcomed the news, highlighting the positive impact of major events on local communities and businesses. “We are consistently seeing the positive impact these major events have on our communities – boosting our tourism sector, supporting local jobs and businesses, and diversifying Western Australia’s economy,” Whitby said.
The matches are part of Calcio Italiano, a pre-season tournament exclusive to Australia. Ticket pre-sales will begin on April 14, with general sales starting on April 15. The tournament will feature some of Italy’s most iconic clubs, including AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Juventus, all of which are currently top contenders in Serie A. Palermo, a Serie B side, rounds out the lineup.
