Injury Boost: Cucurella and Estevao Edge Closer to Chelsea Return

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior confirms Marc Cucurella is targeting a return against Wrexham, while teenage star Estevao Willian has stepped up his recovery ahead of the PSG clash.

The biggest news for Chelsea from Monday’s training session was the presence of Marc Cucurella. The Spanish left-back was spotted back with the group at Cobham after a frustrating spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

While Rosenior admitted that Wednesday’s trip to face Aston Villa might come a few days too soon for the defender, he was much more optimistic about the weekend. The goal is to have Cucurella back in the matchday squad for the FA Cup fifth-round tie against Wrexham.

Adding to the positive vibes at the training ground, Estevao Willian has also taken a significant step forward in his recovery. While the club is being careful not to put a definitive date on when the teenager will return to action, Rosenior revealed that Estevao is officially back on the grass and running again.

The squad reshuffle continues elsewhere as Chelsea prepares for the Villa clash. The Blues will be without the services of Pedro Neto, who is forced to sit out due to suspension from his red card against Arsenal. However, the defensive line gets a massive boost with the return of Wesley Fofana after serving his own one-match ban following a dismissal against Burnley.

Looking further ahead, the news is a welcome boost as Chelsea prepare to face PSG in the Champions League. The French champions have been granted a domestic reprieve, with their Ligue 1 match against Nantes postponed to give Luis Enrique’s side extra preparation time for the Champions League last-16 tie.

Rosenior was characteristically diplomatic when asked about the move, refusing to complain about the perceived advantage. Instead, he emphasized that Chelsea’s priority is managing their own grueling schedule to ensure they arrive in Paris psychologically healthy and physically fresh.
