Five-time Premier League winner has no coaching experience but would only consider a managerial role if it were at Old Trafford

Former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has expressed his ambition to one day manage the club where he won five Premier League titles.

Vidic so far has no coaching experience, but speaking on The Overlap, the ex-United defender said he would only consider coaching if it were at Old Trafford.

“If I was to manage or coach anyone, it would have to be Manchester United,” he said. “I like things when they’re difficult. To change something from difficult to good is something I like to do.”

Vidic is widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders of all time, forming a reliable and famous partnership with Rio Ferdinand at the heart of United’s defence, in one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.

He eventually left United in 2014 and spent a season and a half at Inter Milan before retiring in January 2016.

Since then, he has focused on property development in Serbia but remains open to roles within football, including sporting director or a position within the Serbian Football Association.

“I’m open to an opportunity to be a coach, or to work in football as a sporting director, or even the Serbian President of the FA,” said Vidic. “That was the plan a few years ago. It didn’t happen but maybe it could happen in the future.

“Obviously, I’ve been successful with what I’m doing outside business wise, the company I’ve created. That is also part of who I am.

“In everything I do, I like to do the best I can, and to produce quality. That’s what I’m trying to achieve in the business I’m doing now as well, to create good apartments and nice buildings which I’m going to be proud walking in, and being proud of what I’ve built.”
