Portugal international is yet to win major silverware in the Middle East but can win the title with Al-Nassr this season

Cristiano Ronaldo has not won a major trophy with Al-Nassr since joining the club in 2023. He won the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023, but it is not recognised as a major trophy.

Al-Nassr were beaten by Al-Ahli in the Saudi Super Cup final in Hong Kong last year. Ronaldo scored in normal time and then later converted from the spot in a penalty shootout, but it was not enough to prevent his side from losing 5-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation time.

The setback came after Al-Nassr had also faltered in the King’s Cup and Super Cup final defeats in 2024.

Since he joined Manchester United in 2003 and kickstarted his famous career, the Portuguese has never played in a club without winning a major trophy, racking up honours in United, Real Madrid and Juventus.

He has yet another a chance now with Al-Nassr. The Saudi Pro League side are currently second in the table, one point behind Al-Ahli, although the latter team have played one game more. They can go at least two points clear if they beat Al-Fayha on Saturday, but the competition is stiff and things have been heating up.

Ronaldo Debuts New Celebration in Response to Criticism

In their game against Al-Najma on Wednesday, which Al-Nassr won 5-0, Ronaldo displayed a new celebration in response to criticism of his side.

Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves, whose side are third and three points behind Al-Nassr, spoke to the media and questioned refereeing decisions that he believed were in favour of Al-Nassr, saying that every club needed to be “on the same level”.

“What we see in some games and what we see in others is completely different, and we want all to play the same games,” said Neves. “I’ve seen players playing almost basketball or handball inside the box, and referees going to the screen and still not giving the penalty.”

After opening the scoring from the spot against Al-Najma, Ronaldo celebrated by mimicking a basketball dunk, seemingly in response to Neves’s comments.

There are 11 games to play but Al-Nassr will have to fight off the competition if the Portuguese is to finally win major silverware in the Middle East.
