Amorim’s side have suffered only one league defeat in their last nine games and are now unbeaten in five away games

Manchester United centre-back Ayden Heaven believes the club will return to Europe by the end of the season if they maintain their current trajectory.

United continued their steady recovery from last season’s humiliation with a 4-1 win away at Wolves on Monday that took them up to sixth in the table. Heaven said the group were determined to correct the mistakes that have been evident in their performances.

“We dropped points in the last game and this was the chance to go and redeem ourselves and get more points,” the 19-year-old said. “I feel like we did that, especially in the second half.”

United’s performance at Molineux again showed both signs of progress and the weaknesses that continue to plague the squad. They failed to capitalise on their chances in the first half, when they could have led by more than a single goal, and careless defending allowed Wolves to pull level shortly before half time, their first goal in six games.

Still, Amorim’s side have suffered only one league defeat in their last nine games and are now unbeaten in five away games. That form is leaving no doubt about a return to Europe by the end of the campaign.

“We’ve just got to do what we did [against Wolves] in every game,” said Heaven. “I don’t think anyone can stop us when we play like this.

“Hopefully we can be in Europe next season, which I think we’ll do. Of course, that’s where Manchester United belong, so I feel like if we just continue how we did [against Wolves], we’ll be back where we belong.”
