Barcelona are expected to make the England winger’s move permanent in the summer but Lewandowski will leave the club

Robert Lewandowski believes Marcus Rashford possesses all the qualities required to reach the very top of the game provided he is trusted and supported by those around him.

Rashford arrived in Spain on loan at the start of the season after slipping down the pecking order at Manchester United during Ruben Amorim’s tenure. His departure followed a topsy-turvy spell that had already seen him spend the latter half of the previous season at Aston Villa, where he produced a modest return of four goals and five assists.

At Barcelona, however, the 28-year-old has rediscovered much of the sharpness that defined his best season in England. Playing in a more fluid attacking setup, Rashford has produced 10 goals and 13 assists across all competitions for Barcelona.

His form has helped the club remain firmly in the hunt for their second La Liga title in two seasons while they remain competitive in the Champions League.

Lewandowski has been impressed by both his teammate’s ability and his character. The veteran striker believes Rashford’s pace and technical skill makes him capable of influencing matches at the highest level.

“He has huge potential,” Lewandowski told Sky Sports. “He has everything. He has speed, he has technique, he has a shot, he has left foot, right foot, skills.

“Marcus is the guy. If you give him confidence, and he sees that you believe in him, he can give you back 200 per cent.

“He’s a very nice guy. We spoke because we are sitting in the dressing room beside [each other]. We also play ping-pong. I see that this guy is very kind, very nice guy, but also because of this, he needs someone standing behind him.

“If he does have this confidence, he can really play his best football and on the best level.”

Barcelona are expected to make the England winger’s move permanent in the summer. They have an option to sign him outright with a figure around €30m.

Lewandowski is set to leave Barcelona when his contract runs out at the end of the season. Barcelona will sign a new striker after Hansi Flick ruled out Rashford moving up to the No 9 position in his place.
