Mikel Arteta praises Max Dowman’s record-breaking goal, describing it as a magical moment as Arsenal beats Everton 2-0 to close in on the Premier League title.
Mikel Arteta described Max Dowman’s record-breaking goal as a magical moment after Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Everton. Dowman became the Premier League’s youngest-ever goalscorer at 16 years and 73 days, scoring in stoppage time.
Dowman also provided the cross for Viktor Gyokeres’ 89th-minute goal, which broke the deadlock. The Gunners’ victory opened up a 10-point lead over Manchester City, who have two games in hand.
Arteta praised Dowman’s impact, saying: “He changed the game every time he got the ball. He made things happen and we looked like more of a threat.”
Dowman has already set records this season as Arsenal’s youngest-ever starter and the Champions League’s youngest-ever player, both when still 15. Arteta said: “To do it at that age, in this context, with the pressure and expectations to win the game, it’s just not normal.”
Gyokeres also responded to being dropped, scoring the opener after Pickford got caught under a Dowman cross. Arteta celebrated both goals wildly, relieved after a nervy 90 minutes.

Arteta praised his players for staying composed under pressure. “There are times when we have to be patient… You have to stay composed, be relentless in your desire to win the game and make something happen.”
The win brings Arsenal closer to their first Premier League title in 22 years. Dowman’s goal will be remembered as a defining moment in the season.
