Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres says the team must move on from their 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa and focus on the next game.
Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres has insisted that the team can recover from their dramatic 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa on Saturday. The Premier League leaders were undone by a 95th-minute winner from Emiliano Buendia, ending their 18-match unbeaten run.
Gyokeres reflected on the tough loss, saying, “It’s football. If you score in the last few seconds or minutes, that is an unbelievable feeling, so it goes both ways.” He added, “Today, unfortunately, it was the other way. It’s tough, but you learn from it.”
The Swedish striker acknowledged that it’s always possible to find positives from a game, but conceded that it’s a very difficult way to lose. “You can always find some positives, but it’s still a very difficult way to lose a football game,” he said.
Despite the defeat, Arsenal still maintain their pole position in the Premier League table. However, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are now just two points behind, and Villa trail the leaders by three points.
Gyokeres emphasized the importance of focusing on what they can control and doing it in their favor. “If we focus on what we can control and do in our favour and focus on the next game, we’ll be better,” he said.
Arsenal will next face Club Brugge in a Champions League game on Wednesday, before hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers next Sunday. Gyokeres is urging his teammates to move on from the defeat and look forward to the next challenge, saying, “It’s not a great feeling right now, but it’s only December, and there are a lot of games to play.”
