Manager says the Santiago Bernabeu is a chance to prove who they are as a team
Pep Guardiola believes his Manchester City players have a chance to prove their mettle against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.
City arrive in Madrid amid what Guardiola described as “a little bit of a transition”. The club’s world-class players like Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Kyle Walker and Ederson have all left, leaving a squad still more or less gunning for the top to face Spain’s heavyweight team.
“We have important players right now who are here in the Bernabeu for the first time,” Guardiola said.
“We have a little bit of a transition. I’d say the biggest players, with the incredible legacies over one decade are not here.
“Many players are new and have to experience that because if you want to make a step up in Europe you have to live these experiences, so next time you know that you have done it and can compete. It’s always a good place to come to prove who you are as a team.”
