“There is no deal,” Palace boss declares

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has said the club will not be selling Marc Guehi to Liverpool this transfer window.

The England defender has been heavily linked to Liverpool this summer and underlined his value with a goal and a commanding performance in Palace’s 3-0 win at Aston Villa on Sunday.

Glasner was clear the 25-year-old remains central to Palace’s plans and that the club is not in a position to sanction a sale.

“We need to keep Marc if we want to play a successful season,” Glasner said. “We have an agreement that if we’re selling Marc we have the right replacement in. We wanted to have this replacement at the beginning of the pre-season.

“There’s no replacement in the building. It’s clear one part of the agreement is not fulfilled. That means we can’t sell Marc.

“It’s not a wish or a gift to Oliver Glasner. It’s necessary for playing a successful season.

“It’s a tempting situation but if we want to progress, we have to keep him. If we sell we accept a step back.”

Liverpool’s defensive strength has come under close scrutiny and the club are eyeing Guehi to strengthen the position, but Glasner dismissed suggestions a deal was already in place, saying: “There is no deal.”
