Nottingham Forest are under pressure to keep hold of one of their key players after agreeing to sell Elanga to Newcastle
Morgan Gibbs-White has linked up with Nottingham Forest at their pre-season training camp in Portugal after a short delay caused by a personal family matter.
The 25-year-old did not travel with the rest of the squad earlier in the week but flew out separately and is now with the team ahead of friendly matches against Fulham on Saturday and Estoril next Wednesday.
This comes as speculation over the midfielder’s future continues. Tottenham Hotspur submitted a £60m bid for Gibbs-White earlier this month, triggering a release clause in his contract.
Forest were left frustrated by the offer, which they believe was made because Spurs had spoken to the player without their permission.
The club are under pressure to keep hold of one of their key players, especially after agreeing to sell Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United for £52m.
Gibbs-White was also involved in Forest’s last pre-season fixture against Monaco at Chesterfield. Internally, the club remain hopeful of convincing him to sign a new contract, but so far there has been no agreement. He has two years remaining on the deal he signed after arriving from Wolves in 2022.
Meanwhile, Forest are also working on strengthening their squad. Bologna’s Dan Ndoye and Manchester City’s James McAtee are both among their current targets, as Nuno Espirito Santo looks to reshape his midfield options ahead of the new Premier League season.
