The Argentine shared a picture of himself in an Aston Villa shirt, albeit with the name of the Manchester-born Marcus Rashford at the back
Garnacho has “no respect” and needs “a clip round the ear”, former Watford striker Troy Deeney has said.
The Manchester United winger posted a holiday snap on Instagram wearing an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford’s name on the back. While on the one hand it may have seemed like a gesture of goodwill towards his friend, many fans saw it as insulting and it sparked a wave of backlash.
Rashford and Garnacho are both expected to leave United this summer after falling out with head coach Ruben Amorim. Rashford was sent out on loan to Aston Villa in January following a breakdown in communication with the manager.
Garnacho seemed like he was back in the manager’s good graces but their relationship broke down again after his reaction to being left out of the starting XI for the Europa League final. Amorim subsequently told him he was no longer part of the club’s plans.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Deeney slammed Garnacho for his actions and called on United captain Bruno Fernandes to take charge when pre-season begins.
“If it was me at Man United and I was [Bruno] Fernandes, I’d wait until he came back and first day I’d just smash him,” Deeney said. “I would. I’m not trying to make headlines. I’d just smash him. This is Man United. Who do you think you are? You little dope.”
Deeney said the winger’s actions suggest he already has a club he is speaking to.
“He doesn’t want to [get back in the team], he must have a move lined up and he’s playing it that way,” said Deeney.
“It’s a new generation, so I’ve got to try and not sound like an old man and be grumpy, but they just need a clip round the ear, half of these.
“They’re bored and they’ve got no respect. Respect is something that is spoken about now, it’s not earned.”
