Manchester City have received a formal approach from Galatasaray for goalkeeper Ederson, with the Turkish champions submitting an opening offer of €3m for the 31-year-old Brazilian.

City have not yet responded to Galatasaray’s modest offer, which should be considered far below their valuation of a player who has been instrumental to their sustained success under Pep Guardiola.

Ederson, who joined City from Benfica in 2017 for £35m, has been central to the club’s dominance over the past seven years. He has amassed over 370 appearances and helped the club to 16 major honours, including six Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.

His ball-playing ability and consistency have been key to Guardiola’s tactical setup.

Galatasaray want a replacement for Fernando Muslera, who retired from football this summer after 14 years at the club. The Turkish champions view Ederson as an ideal fit both in terms of experience and profile. They are hoping their Champions League qualification and sporting ambitions will appeal to Ederson, who still has several years left at the top level.

However, the Istanbul face competition for Ederson’s signature from Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad, who have both reportedly made informal contact with Ederson’s representatives in recent weeks.

While they are yet to place bids, both clubs can offer significantly higher wages than Galatasaray to lure the Brazilian to the Gulf.
