Former Bayern Munich star Mathys Tel is reportedly attracting interest from Borussia Dortmund, though his agent insists a return to Bayern Munich would be the only route back to Germany.
Former Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel has reportedly emerged as a surprise transfer target for Borussia Dortmund. The 20-year-old forward, currently at Tottenham Hotspur, could be set for a potential return to the Bundesliga, though doubts remain over the likelihood of such a move.
The speculation comes from reports suggesting Dortmund are monitoring Tel’s situation in north London. The French attacker has struggled to fully establish himself since his move, prompting suggestions that he could leave sooner than expected.
Tel initially joined Bayern from Stade Rennes in 2022 for a reported €28.5 million fee. Regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young attacking talents, he showed flashes of promise during his time in Munich before securing a transfer to Tottenham in 2025.
Despite the links to Dortmund, Tel’s agent, Gadiri Camara, has downplayed the possibility of his client joining the Westphalian side. He suggested that a return to Germany would only happen if it involved Bayern.
Camara made it clear that Tel’s loyalty to his former club remains strong, indicating that the forward would not consider joining another Bundesliga team. His comments cast significant doubt on Dortmund’s chances of completing a deal.
“I don’t know if Dortmund really wants Mathys, but honestly, a return to Bayern is the only way Mathys will come back to Germany,” Camara explained. He added that the young striker “can’t play for another club in the Bundesliga,” highlighting the player’s affection for Bayern.
While transfer rumours continue to circulate, Tel’s future remains uncertain. Tel and Tottenham are currently in a relegation battle and if he continues his current form, he could be potentially secure a move outside the club. However, any move back to Germany appears dependent on Bayern’s interest, leaving Dortmund’s hopes of landing the talented forward looking increasingly unlikely.
