Vitor Pereira frustrated after last-gasp strike from Alexis Mac Allister ruins good evening for Forest

Nottingham Forest’s new coach Vitor Pereira has expressed his disappointment after his side were flattened by Alexis Mac Allister’s goal in the last minute of stoppage time to snatch three points for Liverpool.

Forest followed up their midweek victory over Fenerbahce with an encouraging performance against the Premier League champions, proving themselves the better side in a first half Liverpool coach Arne Slot called one of his team’s worst performances this season.

However, the last-minute loss will keep them in panic mode, with only two points between them and West Ham in the relegation zone, although Pereira’s arrival has lifted spirits and brought hope that they may just avoid the drop.

“I realised that my team played at a very high level,” Pereira said after Sunday’s defeat to Liverpool. “In the first half we were creating and not conceding anything to them, creating chances to score. But the result was not fair to us at half time.

“In the second half we lost a little bit our capacity to press them because we played three days ago. We travelled and we didn’t have a proper rest.

“But even in the second half they had the ball but not in our half. We didn’t concede anything to them, but then after a throw-in or two at the end they put the ball in our box and we concede the goal.”
