Manager says the squad have all it takes to reach the same heights they did last season
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has challenged his squad to match last season’s standards as the club prepare for a new campaign.
The German manager guided Barcelona to a domestic treble, winning La Liga, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup in his first year in charge.
They beat Real Madrid in both cup finals, and in fact every time they met last season. Flick said the expectation now is to maintain that level.
“We’re looking at ourselves and we want to win titles, just like last season, the same goal,” said Flick. “We’re going to try to win every game, as always. It will be a tough season, but we’re approaching it positively.
“We’ve improved the quality of the team, that’s what we think. But it will be a long season.”
Barcelona have made three additions to Flick’s squad this summer. Marcus Rashford arrived on loan from Manchester United, and the Catalans also signed goalkeeper Joan Garcia from Espanyol and young forward Roony Bardghji from FC Copenhagen.
President Joan Laporta has said the club will not make any more signings this summer, making Rashford the only senior outfield addition.
“Marcus is a great player,” Flick said. “I’ve followed him for many years since he started his career at United. He has a lot of quality and we hope he can show that this season with the team.”
The German is also satisfied with the squad’s depth heading into the new season.
Flick said: “I have a great team with a lot of quality. We have two players for every position, and in some positions we even have three players. It’s not easy to manage, of course, but I’m happy.”
