Youngsters Shea Lacey and Jack Fletcher have drawn attention following their recent debuts

Darren Fletcher believes Manchester United’s latest academy graduates are talented and hardworking but will need time to develop.

Shea Lacey and Jack Fletcher have made their senior debuts over the past month, and Tyler Fletcher has made the bench three times. In United’s 1-1 draw with Burnley this week, Lacey came off the bench and almost scored a sensational goal when he cut in from the right and curled a shot onto the bar from outside the box.

Recently dismissed manager Ruben Amorim was heavily criticised for apparently not giving enough opportunities to academy talents.

“I think historically this club is built around the academy,” said current interim coach Fletcher. “We’ve got an amazing academy, our record speaks for itself.

“We have some amazing players with some amazing talent. What I see is a lot of hard work, humble, young players who aren’t perfect because they’re young and learning. We ask too much of young people in society at times and in general.

“We have to let them learn, educate them, help them understand they will make mistakes. With good guidance, all of us play a part in developing them to be Manchester United players and people.”
