Chelsea were beaten blue black in their second Club World Cup fixture against Flamengo. Just like a stack of cards, they fell apart.
This isn’t a good day for Chelsea fans. In a bizarre turn of events, Chelsea were handed a huge defeat against Flamengo in their second game at the Club World Cup.
The Blues were outplayed from start to finish and the scoreline was a reflection of how poor they were today.
Enzo Maresca’s side had taken the lead in the first half against the run of play after a kind rebound fell to Pedro Neto who charged at goal to give Chelsea the lead but the Blues were wrecked after that.
They struggled to create chances and Flamengo, despite being behind, showed real class.
Super sub Henrique turned the game on its head after coming on. He scored in the 62nd minute to pull his team level and provided an assist in the 65th minute for Danilo to bring his team in front.
In the space of 4 minutes, Flamengo were 2-1 up. Chelsea were battered but it got worse when Nicolas Jackson came one.
The Senegalese forward had barely touched the ball before he was shown a red card for a malicious tackle. His error reduced Chelsea to ten men and Flamengo made them suffer for it as they added another goal in the 83rd minute to make it 3-1.
Flamengo fans were thrown into a frenzy, Chelsea couldn’t believe their eyes. This result adds to the complete dominance of Brazilian teams in the Club World Cup.
Flamengo now top the group and have qualified for the next round. Chelsea will have to dig deep against ES Tunis if they don’t want to have an embarrassing outing in this competition.
