AC Milan’s hopes of returning to the UEFA Champions League took a major hit following a frustrating 2-2 draw against Fiorentina at the San Siro. AC Milan who had struggled in recent matches have once again failed to secure maximum points.
The game began with a setback for AC Milan as defender Malick Thiaw scored an own goal just 13 minutes in, giving Fiorentina the lead. Things worsened when Juventus loanee Moise Kean doubled the home side’s advantage shortly after, capitalizing on a defensive lapse.
Milan responded through Tammy Abraham, who found the net in the 23rd minute to reduce the deficit, and Luka Jovic equalized early in the second half, injecting some hope into the visiting side.
Despite Milan’s effort to push for a winner, Fiorentina looked the more dangerous team late in the game and were unlucky to have two goals disallowed for offside. With the draw, AC Milan remain in 9th place, trailing Fiorentina by four points and sitting eight points behind fourth-placed Bologna.
For a club with seven Champions League titles, the current campaign has been underwhelming. This draw casts more doubt on their hopes of making it to the Champions League next season.
With just two wins in their last seven Serie A matches, AC Milan are slipping further away from Europe while showing underlying inconsistencies within the team. There are also growing questions about the club’s direction and ability to reclaim its European glory.
