Premium seating remains untouched by the price changes, with club-level options listed as high as $4,000
FIFA has reduced ticket prices for Sunday’s Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with demand lower than expected.
The standard admission prices listed earlier this week were as high as $312, but they have now dropped to as low as $201 on official resale platforms.
The reduction comes just hours before Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea face off in the final of the expanded 32-team tournament.
Premium seating remains untouched by the price changes. Club-level options, including East Club and EY Coaches Club seats, continue to be listed at $1,644.65 and $4,348.50 respectively.
While many matches throughout the competition, especially in the early rounds, have featured half-empty stadiums, FIFA has in fact boasted that the tournament has had high overall attendance, with the federation’s Chief of Global Football Development Arsene Wenger saying that “attendance projections were low, but in reality they were much higher”.
According to figures put out by FIFA, more than 2.4 million fans have attended the competition across 62 matches, with 21 of those matches seeing at least 50,000 people attend.
Sunday’s final had been expected to attract a sellout crowd, but the governing body’s decision to lower ticket prices shows that fan demand has not matched expectations, despite the sides in the final being two of the biggest clubs in Europe.
