Fabio Paratici is set to leave his sporting director role at Tottenham and join Fiorentina at the end of the January transfer window marking his second departure from the club, just three months after returning to work alongside Johan Lange in October last year.

Paratici’s decision to leave Tottenham stems from his desire to return to Italy, citing personal reasons and a need to be based in his homeland. Tottenham’s chief executive, Vinai Venkatesham, expressed gratitude for Paratici’s contribution to the club and wished him well in his future endeavors.

“We have agreed that Fabio will return to Italy following the conclusion of the January transfer window, in line with his wish to move back home,” Venkatesham said in a statement.

Paratici, who originally left Tottenham in April 2023 after serving a two-and-a-half-year ban, expressed his affection for the club and confidence in its future success. “I have loved my time at the club, however this opportunity, together with the need to be based in my homeland, has led me to this decision,” he said.

The Italian executive played a key role in Tottenham’s recruitment, signing players like Destiny Udogie and Dejan Kulusevski. His departure leaves Johan Lange as the sole sporting director, with Tottenham assuring fans that their management structure is resilient to personnel changes.

Paratici’s move to Fiorentina is reportedly driven by personal reasons, including a desire to be closer to his wife. He had previously opposed the hiring of Thomas Frank as Tottenham’s manager, instead backing Igor Tudor for the role.

With Paratici’s departure, Tottenham fans could see changes in their transfer strategy going into the January transfer window and hopefully, it doesn’t drastically affect already existing plans.
