Deal would likely require City to subsidise a significant portion of the Grealish’s wages
Everton have opened discussions with Manchester City over a possible season-long loan deal for Jack Grealish.
The winger’s future at the Etihad has been up in the air this summer following poor form in the past two seasons.
Initial contact between the clubs has taken place, though the situation is complicated and still far from a done deal, according to The Athletic. Talks remain in the early stages and there is currently no agreement in place.
Grealish struggled for game time last term, making just seven starts in the Premier League and featuring sporadically in cup competitions.
He was left out of City’s squad entirely for their final league game against Fulham and remained on the bench during the FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace, with youngster Claudio Echeverri brought on for his debut instead when City were chasing a crucial late equaliser.
Despite his reduced role, Pep Guardiola insisted earlier this summer that he still values the England international, although there is a growing belief internally that his future lies away from the Etihad.
Grealish joined City from Aston Villa in 2021 for a club-record fee of £100m. Although he was a key part of the club’s treble-winning team in the 2022-23 season, he has since had next to no impact or even a stable role in the squad.
Everton are looking to add experience and creativity to David Moyes’s squad and view Grealish as a potential short-term solution.
But any deal would likely require City to subsidise a significant portion of the player’s wages, which could prove a stumbling block.
