The Norwegian has scored 100 in 111 league appearances for City
Erling Haaland has broken Alan Shearer’s record to become the fastest player to reach 100 Premier League goals.
Manchester City’s Norwegian striker achieved his century of goals in just 111 league appearances, a remarkable achievement averaging nearly a goal every game. Alan Shearer set the record in 1995 when he scored 100 goals in 124 matches.
Haaland played down the achievement as just doing his job.
“I don’t want to say the words, but when you’re a striker for Manchester City, you should be delivering great numbers and that’s my job,” Haaland said.
“People should criticise me if I don’t. That’s normally what people do, so in the end, I should deliver.”
Shearer would go on to set the record for most goals scored by a player in the Premier League era, an astonishing 260 goals, although Haaland is now looking increasingly likely to break that one as well if he remains at City.
City’s manager Pep Guardiola was full of praise for his striker.
“For people up front it’s a question of numbers, and his numbers have no discussion,” said Guardiola.
“When he arrived, if you told me he would score 100 in 111 games I would say are you sure? In this league? And he did it.
“The milestones are insane. I’m happy for him, happy for the team to deliver for him and continue so that we improve that.”
