Monaco has officially announced the signing of Eric Dier, following a successful stint at Bayern Munich.
The English defender, who began his career at Sporting Lisbon before spending nearly a decade at Tottenham Hotspur, joined Bayern in January 2024. Initially arriving on loan, Dier made the move permanent in the summer of 2024 and went on to make 47 appearances over 18 months, scoring three goals.
During his time at Bayern, Dier played a crucial role in the team’s defence, contributing to their Bundesliga title win. The championship was particularly special as he achieved it alongside his longtime friend and England teammate, Harry Kane. Reflecting on the triumph, Dier expressed his joy, stating, “I feared I’d never win a trophy, but lifting the Bundesliga with Harry Kane makes it extra special.”
Despite Bayern’s offer to extend his contract, Dier opted for a new challenge in Ligue 1 with AS Monaco. He cited a desire for new experiences and praised Monaco’s efforts to sign him. In a farewell message, Dier expressed his appreciation for his time at Bayern, noting that the split was amicable and that his stint in Germany had revitalised his career.
At Monaco, Dier is expected to bring his experience and leadership to a young squad under coach Adi Hütter. In his announcement video, Dier shared his excitement about the move and mentioned his intention to improve his French. As he embarks on this new chapter, Dier aims to make a significant impact in Ligue 1 and hopes his performances will earn him a recall to the England national team under manager Thomas Tuchel.
