England is set to host Uruguay and Japan in friendly matches at Wembley Stadium in March 2026, as part of their preparation for the upcoming World Cup.

The Football Association has confirmed the friendly matches, with England facing 16th-ranked Uruguay on March 27, followed by a clash with 18th-ranked Japan three days later.

Tuchel expressed his satisfaction with the fixtures, stating that they wanted to play top 20 teams from outside Europe.

These matches will be Tuchel’s last opportunity to assess his squad before the World Cup, and he is looking to test his team’s mettle against strong opponents.

England’s most recent meeting with Uruguay was a 2-1 defeat in the 2014 World Cup group stage, while they last faced Japan in 2010.

England is in Group L of the World Cup, alongside Croatia, Ghana, and Panama. Their opening match is scheduled for June 17 against Croatia in Dallas.

Tuchel’s squad is expected to play two additional warm-up matches in the United States before the tournament.

“We are really pleased to have these two fixtures confirmed as our World Cup year takes shape,” Tuchel said. “We wanted to play two teams ranked in the top 20 in the world, but also to test ourselves against opponents from outside of Europe.”

The friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan will be an important step in England’s preparation for the World Cup.

With the tournament just months away, Tuchel will be looking to fine-tune his squad and tactics before the big stage.
