Eintracht Frankfurt striker revealed in an interview that Manchester Utd was his boyhood club

An interview featuring Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike has resurfaced, in which he admitted that Manchester United were his favourite club as a child.

The interview was conducted by German broadcaster RTL in December 2024 and has now made the rounds on social media.

Speaking to RTL Ekitike said: “My favourite club as a child was Manchester United. I’ve always admired them.”

This comes after reports revealed that United are actively pursuing the 22-year-old forward this summer, with fans on social media suggesting that he could be eager to sign for the Red Devils like Matheus Cunha, the Brazil international who revealed last week that United was his “dream” club after following the Premier League side as a child.

Both United and Chelsea are interested in Ekitike, but the Manchester club are the only side to have made direct contact with Eintracht Frankfurt so far, according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg. It is understood that Liverpool and Chelsea have only approached his representatives, not the Bundesliga club itself.

United manager Ruben Amorim is eager to bolster his attacking department this summer following an underwhelming campaign in which the club scored just 44 Premier League goals. Only four other teams in the league last season scored less, and three of them were relegated.

The Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha and continues to pursue attacking targets including Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo.
