Dortmund Take Two-Goal Advantage into Second Leg

Borussia Dortmund moved closer to the Champions League last 16 with a commanding 2-0 win over Atalanta in the first leg of their playoff tie.

Dortmund got off to a flying start, with Serhou Guirassy heading home a Julian Ryerson cross after just two minutes. It was a lightning-quick start that set the tone for the match, and Dortmund continued to dominate possession.

Atalanta pushed hard for an equalizer, but Dortmund’s defence held firm and the German giants almost went two goals up in the first half as Waldemar Anton headed the ball over the bar from Ryerson’s free-kick.

Dortmund eventually got their second goal and a much-needed cushion when Guirassy squared for Maximilian Beier to tap home his second goal in as many games.

As the match approached its climax, Dortmund looked more likely to score again, with Julian Brandt slicing over the crossbar from close range.

With a two-goal advantage, Dortmund are confident of progressing to the last 16. They’re looking strong, and Atalanta will need a big response in the second leg.
