Borussia Dortmund’s 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign has been a rollercoaster, but with the season nearing its conclusion, the Black and Yellows find themselves within striking distance of a top-four finish and Champions League qualification.

Currently sitting sixth in the table with 48 points, Dortmund trail fourth-placed Freiburg by just three points, making today’s match against Wolfsburg at Signal Iduna Park a crucial fixture in their quest for European football next season.

Under the guidance of recently appointed manager Niko Kovač, Dortmund have experienced a resurgence in form.

Since Kovač’s arrival, the team has collected 13 points from their last five Bundesliga matches, including back-to-back victories over Borussia Mönchengladbach and Hoffenheim.

This impressive run has propelled them from 11th to sixth place, reigniting hopes of a Champions League spot.

Kovač’s impact has been evident not only in results but also in the team’s playing style. Dortmund have shown increased cohesion and attacking prowess, highlighted by a thrilling 2-2 draw against league leaders Bayern Munich and a commanding 3-1 victory over Freiburg.

The manager’s emphasis on discipline and tactical flexibility has revitalized a squad that appeared to be losing direction earlier in the season.

Offensively, Dortmund have been formidable, scoring 54 goals in the league, a tally surpassed only by Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Key contributors include Serhou Guirassy, who has netted 17 Bundesliga goals, and Maximilian Beier, who has provided five goal contributions in his last five appearances. The return to form of Karim Adeyemi has also boosted Dortmund’s attacking options, adding depth and versatility to their forward line.

The remaining fixtures present both challenges and opportunities for Dortmund.

After today’s home match against Wolfsburg, they face a tough away game against Bayer Leverkusen, followed by a final-day clash at home against Holstein Kiel.

While Leverkusen will be a stern test, Wolfsburg and Kiel are mid-table teams with little to play for, potentially allowing Dortmund to capitalize and secure vital points.

As the season reaches its climax, Dortmund’s fate is in their own hands. By maintaining their current form and securing victories in their remaining matches, they can overtake Freiburg and claim a coveted spot in next season’s Champions League.

The journey has been a tough one, but Dortmund look set to complete a remarkable turnaround.
