Dortmund Mount Second-Half Comeback Against Hamburg To Keep Bayern on Their Toes

Borussia Dortmund came from two goals down at half time to win 3-2 against Hamburger SV.

It was shaping up to be a long afternoon for Borussia Dortmund at the Volksparkstadion, but they produced a stunning second-half comeback to defeat Hamburger SV 3-2 and keep their title hopes alive.

The visitors looked to have the upper hand early on, with Maximilian Beier’s one-on-one effort repelled by Daniel Heuer Fernandes in the seventh minute.

However, Hamburg took control of the game and Philip Otele opened the scoring in the 20th minute, tapping in from close range after William Mikelbrencis stole the ball away from Daniel Svensson. The visitors continued to press, but Gregor Kobel made a crucial save to deny Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer’s near-post drive.

Hamburg doubled their lead just before halftime, with Albert Sambi Lokonga lifting his finish into the near top corner from close range. Dortmund had a penalty appeal turned down, with Felix Nmecha’s spot-kick saved by Heuer Fernandes.

The second half brought fresh belief for Dortmund, and the introductions of Serhou Guirassy and Fabio Silva reinvigorated their attacking play. They were awarded a penalty in the 52nd minute, and Ramy Bensebaini made no mistake, rolling the ball down the middle of the goal.

The comeback was completed just five minutes later, with Guirassy scoring after a series of close-range efforts. Dortmund continued to push, and Silva’s thunderous effort showed they weren’t done yet.

The winning goal came in the 84th minute, with Bensebaini scoring his second penalty of the game after Miro Muheim handled the ball in the area. The win keeps Dortmund’s title hopes alive, with the team now nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich with seven matches to play.

Hamburg’s four-match unbeaten away run came to an end, and they will be disappointed not to have taken all three points. Dortmund, on the other hand, are relishing the chance to close the gap on Bayern.
