Borussia Dortmund defeats Hoffenheim 2-0 to end Hoffenheim’s unbeaten run and push Dortmund to third-place position in the Bundesliga.
Borussia Dortmund returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Hoffenheim, thanks to goals from Julian Brandt and Nico Schlotterbeck. The hosts dominated the first half, but struggled to break through until Brandt’s smart finish in the 44th minute.
Hoffenheim, who had been unbeaten in their previous six games, failed to show their usual attacking intent, with Tim Lemperle and Bazoumana Touré settling for harmless long-range attempts.
The second half saw Hoffenheim push for an equalizer, but Dortmund’s defense held strong. Schlotterbeck sealed the win with a powerful strike, beating his Germany teammate Oliver Baumann. The center-back’s goal was his first since scoring against Hoffenheim earlier this season.
Hoffenheim’s struggles continued as Bernardo received his fifth yellow card, ruling him out of next week’s home game against Hamburg.
Dortmund’s win extends their unbeaten run to six Bundesliga matches, cementing their third-place position. Hoffenheim, meanwhile, saw their recent momentum checked, and will look to bounce back against Hamburg and Stuttgart.
The win sets up an exciting end to the year for Dortmund, with two home games against Bodø/Glimt and Borussia Mönchengladbach, followed by a trip to Freiburg to end the year.
