Borussia Dortmund wants to re-sign Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka next season, according to sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

Borussia Dortmund is keen on retaining Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, with sporting director Sebastian Kehl confirming the club’s interest in signing him permanently.

Chukwuemeka, 21, joined Dortmund on loan in February and has impressed the club with his performances. Now that his loan spell has ended, Chukwuemeka will return to Stamford Bridge, but Dortmund is hopeful of bringing him back.

Kehl stated that Dortmund will have further discussions about Chukwuemeka’s situation in the coming days.

He praised the midfielder, saying it was a good move for him to join Dortmund and that they will try to keep him due to his exceptional skills. Chelsea is reportedly looking for around £40m for Chukwuemeka, who they signed from Aston Villa in 2022.

Kehl acknowledged that signing Chukwuemeka permanently might be challenging due to the player’s price tag. However, he emphasised that Dortmund is close to the player, and Chukwuemeka loves the club. The final decision will depend on negotiations between Chelsea and Dortmund.

The potential signing of Chukwuemeka is significant for Dortmund, as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season. With Chukwuemeka’s talent and experience, he could be a valuable addition to the team. Kehl’s comments suggest that Dortmund is serious about keeping him.

In other news, Dortmund’s sporting director wished winger Jamie Gittens well after his £48.5m move to Chelsea. Kehl revealed that Dortmund had multiple discussions with Chelsea about the transfer and ultimately agreed to let Gittens make the move. He praised Gittens, saying he is a great kid with lots of potential.
