Liverpool owner John Henry told Alexander-Arnold to “do the right thing” amid uncertainty over his future, according to professional lipreader Nicola Hickling.

After Liverpool’s demolition of Spurs on Sunday to cruise to a 20th Premier League title win, the two men were seen speaking at Anfield during the trophy celebrations, and Hickling has provided an account of the exchange.

The conversation reportedly went as follows:

JH: “You’ve been quiet. How did you get on?”

TAA: *nods* and says: “Being sensible.”

JH: Raises his hand slightly and says: “I want you to do the right thing”

TAA: “Yeah, yeah.”

JH: “Best way and don’t panic.”

TAA: “Should I decide?”

JH: He nods very slowly and says: “Absolutely.” and then turns to say: “Let them know.”

TAA: Nods in agreement.

Alexander-Arnold has long been linked with a transfer to Real Madrid, although fans are keen for him to stay at the club beyond the summer. The right-back, regarded as one of the best fullbacks in the world due to his passing ability, is a product of Liverpool’s academy and a central figure in their recent successes. Fans understandably want him to keep on contributing to the club’s success

Liverpool recently succeeded in renewing contracts for senior players Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, despite initial uncertainty about their future.
